PPC vs. SEO: Which should you invest in?
Do you know how to generate traffic to your website?
The major variables that will influence your website traffic are PPC (Pay per Click) and SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Every marketing guru has his/ her ’s own arguments about which one is the better investment. And they have the right to pick and debate over the best traffic booster.
However, we would like you to make your own informed choice. All we will do is explain what each factor is and what it does for the company.
Are you ready to be enlightened?
What is PPC?
Pay per Click (PPC) is the numerous advertising programs at your disposal. Search engines like Google, Bing or social networking sites like Facebook and LinkedIn provide these services.
What does it do?
It is basically a billboard for web traffic. It allows users to see these sponsored advertisements on the side of the search results or is incorporated in your social media feed. These ads are visible to your target audience when they are browsing the web or when they come online.
The only condition is your business will have to pay the companies to put up these ads based on the demand and competition of the keywords. Additionally, you pay extra every time someone clicks on these advertisements. Hence, it is named ‘pay per click’.
Here is when you should invest in PPC:
- If you want to increase the web traffic on your website (this does not mean every visitor will be a lead or conversion)
- If you have the budget to accommodate a substantial fee for paid ads
- If your content is not optimized
- You have set the target audience you want to reach through these advertisements, ones that won’t automatically land on your page
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the way you build traffic without spending money. You do this by generating organic traffic to land on your websites.
What does it do?
SEO rankings are basically lists. Your main goal is to reach the top of this list and be a searchable company. The only way to do this is via a great strategy and strong control over keywords and content.
The only way to succeed here is by knowing what people want and what you can specifically deliver to them. You need to know your niche, the target audience, and the various techniques that run the SEO system.
This is why it is often said it may be cheaper than PPC, but SEO does not come for free.
When should you use this?
Here are the various reasons why you should invest in SEO:
- When you are willing to wait for your traffic
- When you want long-term revenues
- When your website and content is optimized
Which is the better approach?
Honestly speaking, they both have their unique set of advantages. The difference they will make for your company depends solely on the type of services you provide and the type of audience you are targeting. More important, we must remind you they will both take time in generating profits.
In short, there is no magical formula out there that can make you rich overnight!
