What is off-page SEO?
2018 July 27
On Wednesday, we talked about on-page SEO and how you can use it as a tool to increase your search engine rankings. Another part of effective search engine optimization (SEO) is off-page SEO. Today, we’re diving into what that means!
Why is off-page SEO valuable?
Off-page SEO is extremely valuable for websites because it tells search engines that your website is important to others on the web.
While on-page SEO has you creating an awesome website with informational, engaging content, off-page SEO helps you to create exposure, credibility, and brand awareness on the internet. Off-page SEO basically looks at how popular and authoritative your website is, compared to other sites in the search engine rankings.
So what exactly is off-page SEO?
Off-page SEO refers to what you can do off of the website to increase your search engine results rankings, also known as SERP.
What are some off-page SEO practices?
Think of good links as a vote of confidence in your site. This is essentially how Google views them. With more good, organic links, Google will reward your site with higher search engine rankings.
Not all links are created equal, though. Having lots of “low authority site” links are not the same as one “high authority site” link.
Also, “black hat” link building, such as the links that come bought or from artificial programs, can be penalized by Google.
One of the best ways to get good quality links to your site is to create good, quality content. This is the kind of content that others WANT to link to!
Social media is one of the easiest ways to start talking to your audience and getting your site’s “name” out there to the public. A fully developed social media profile where you are sharing relevant, informational content is vital.
Always use a consistent, friendly tone for your brand’s voice, this will make all the difference when it comes to creating a larger presence across the internet.
Yes, Google+ is a social media site, but it’s also one that’s completely developed by Google.
So, if you’re trying to rank higher on Google and other search engines, sharing your content on Google+ may just make things easier for you!
Local SEO also comes into play here, but we’re devoting a whole blog to it next week! For now, check out our blog post, “5 Beginner Local SEO Denver Tips For Your Website.”
Is off-page SEO more important or less important that on-page SEO?
Neither is more important than the other. Both on-page and off-page SEO strategies work hand-in-hand to get your website to the top search engine rankings.
You need the great content you’ve created during the on-page SEO process to work for you to build links in the off-page SEO stage. And you keep doing it. And keep doing it. And keep doing it.
Overwhelmed? That's okay!
